Today, we’re relaunching Maido with a new purpose to work with commercial, NGO and government organisations who are striving to positively change the world through design and technology. Our aim is to positively impact the lives of 50 million by 2022.

Founded in 2011, we began as a digital product studio for the commercial world, creating award-winning digital products for some of the world’s most successful brands, but since 2014, we’ve increased our focus and expertise in the social impact space.
We’ve become undeniably aware of the innovation disparity between the commercial and social impact worlds. Commercial organisations are typically the creators and owners of breakthrough technologies. These technologies often have life-changing potential, but aren’t applied for good, applied soon enough, or applied with enough rigour and resources to make a difference.
Our new ambition is to accelerate the untapped potential of these commercial-born technologies into the hands of those who need it most.
To date, Maido’s digital products have impacted the lives of over 20 million people across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the US, and our ambition is to reach 50 million by 2022.
With this evolution, Laura Scanlon, previously Senior Director at international development org Girl Effect and founder of TEGA, will join the leadership team as co-CEO alongside founder George Wiscombe, and newly promoted COO Vitoria Santos Silva.
Today, the most marginalised communities in the world have access to mobile devices and, increasingly, the internet. This has created new opportunities to access the information and resources needed to survive and thrive. We are excited to play a small role in making this happen.
— George Wiscombe, co-CEO
